Statement in Support of Black Lives Matter June 3, 2020 | Posted by Sabrina Fields, BA The Firelight Group stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Black, Indigenous and other people of colour who have been killed at the hands of police brutality and systemic racism. Anti-Black racism is alive in Canada, built on a history of colonization, slavery, and genocide that continues to have violent and deadly impacts on Black, Indigenous, and racialized communities today. June 3 also marks the one-year anniversary of the release of the National Inquiry for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) report and 231 Calls to Justice. Embracing these calls to justice is essential to dismantling systemic racism. Now is not the time to be silent, we must listen to Black and Indigenous voices.
