Carilia is an intern with the Firelight Group supporting the ecology team. She holds a Bachelor of Social Science in Geography from the University of Victoria. Her studies focused on investigating traditional food systems using geomatics, resource management and ecological systems. As a descendant of Gitxsan First Nations Carilia is passionate about learning and working in the intersections of western science and traditional knowledge. Carilia has worked in diverse roles in the marine world including as a search and rescue crew member in the arctic region, as a geomatics technician with DFO and with the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. Carilia loves being around the ocean and enjoys surfing, kayaking and camping.
