Kennedy is a member of the Mikisew Cree First Nation in Alberta. She is a Research Intern with the Indigenous Planning team. She graduated from UBC with a BA in Geography: Environment & Sustainability and will be beginning her Masters of Geomatics for Environmental Management this summer, also at UBC. Kennedy focused on specializing in First Nations & Indigenous Studies while in her undergraduate studies and this, along with her lived experience, has guided her passion to use GIS and Geomatics to advance the sovereignty of Indigenous Nations.
Kennedy has been involved with several environmental advocacy groups and most recently was selected to be a Youth Delegate at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, UK. Along with her delegation, they created a policy brief focusing on the need to redirect fossil fuel subsidies in Canada and calling for a Just Transition as an opportunity for environmental integrity, social equity and economic prosperity.
