Experience

Nisha (she/her) is a planner with The Firelight Group, having joined the team in 2023. She has experience in Indigenous-led strategic planning, traditional land use research and land use planning and engagement. 

Nisha has a deep-rooted passion for advancing equity and inclusivity, amplifying Indigenous voices, and ways in which planning can create more meaningful, sustainable and accessible places through the input of Indigenous Peoples. Nisha is proud to be of Métis ancestry; holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Alberta University of the Arts, and a Master of Planning from the University of Calgary. Her academic and professional pursuits have provided her with a strong understanding of land use planning within western and northern Canada, visual storytelling and communications, and the complexity of human environments within multi-faceted systems. Nisha is also an APPI and CIP Candidate Member. 

Nisha is located on the traditional territory of the people of the Treaty 7 region, who have taken care of this land for time immemorial, the traditional territory of Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations) and the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations). Calgary is also part of the Métis homeland and home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3.
