Aibakyt is a Research Intern at the Firelight Group supporting the Traditional Knowledge
and Use Studies and Indigenous Planning teams. She graduated from York University
Summa Cum Laude in 2019 with a degree in Global Politics. During her studies, Aiba
worked as a Research Assistant at Harriet Tubman Institute exploring forced marriage
in post-conflict situations, and supported development programs in Uganda. She also
coordinated capacity-building programs for financial institutions in the Global South.
Aiba is excited to immerse herself in research and build relationships with Indigenous
communities in Canada and beyond. In her spare time, Aiba enjoys hiking, running, and
watching anime.
