Experience

Carly Armstrong (she/her) is the Ecology Program Manager with Firelight. She has over fifteen years of experience working with and for Indigenous Nations in ecological management.  Her ancestral lineages connect to Europe, primarily Romania and Scotland/Ireland.  As a settler and non-Indigenous practitioner, she is committed to supporting Nations in asserting their sovereignty and jurisdiction over their lands and waters.  She is honoured to work with the Firelight group and support the Ecology team in their community-based research.

Carly holds a doctoral degree in Indigenous Studies from Trent University, with a focus on Indigenous Environmental Studies. She also has a master’s degree from Royal Roads University in Environmental Education and Communication and an undergraduate degree in Natural Resource Management and Forest Conservation from the University of Toronto.  Her work in community has been broad ranging, from finding alternatives to herbicide use in forestry to supporting Nations in better understanding climate change impacts on their lands and waters.
