Experience

Freya (she/her) is a Research Intern supporting the Indigenous Negotiations team. She is a Euro-Canadian settler who grew up on in W̱SÁNEĆ territory on Vancouver Island and is now gratefully living on the traditional territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations in Vancouver. Freya recently completed a MSc in Resources, Environment Sustainability at the University of British Columbia, and holds a Bachelors of Arts Science in Sustainability, Science, Society with a minor in geography from McGill University. With a background in soil science, interdisciplinary research and environmental education, she has found her passion in community-led work, that incorporates different forms of knowledge, which she hopes to bring to her role at Firelight. Outside of work, Freya likes to be on her bike, or touching dirt in some form (gardening, hiking, reading a book at the park).
