Experience

Leslie Agger is Anishinaabe-kwe from Lac Seul First Nation in northwestern Ontario. Her
background is in community-based research, with a focus on oral histories, health, environmental
assessment, and the impacts of climate change on Indigenous peoples.

Much of her work has examined the impacts of hydroelectric development along the Nelson
River in northern Manitoba. This has included extensive time on the land with Elders and
resource harvesters, documenting community histories and lived experiences related to industrial
development, environmental change, and impact assessment processes. Through this work, she
has developed extensive, practical knowledge of impact assessment from a community-based
perspective, including providing testimony on behalf of the Fox Lake Cree Nation before the
Manitoba Clean Environment Committee.

She is a board member of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba and contributes to
several committees, including Truth and Reconciliation and Anti-Racism in Health Care, the
Board of Governance, the Manitoba Quality Assurance Program, the Sexual Boundaries
Working Group, and the Prescribing Opioids Working Group.
She also serves on the International Red River Watershed Board as a member of the Water
Quality Committee.

Most importantly, she is a mother to an 11-year-old daughter. Together, they enjoy camping,
cross-country skiing, and returning to their homeland of Trout Lake, Ontario
