Owen Wilson (he/him) is a Researcher with the Indigenous Negotiations team at Firelight. Owen is a settler of English and Irish heritage, who grew up in Waterdown, Ontario, on the Treaty territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, and now lives and works in Vancouver, on the territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) & səl̓ilwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. Owen completed his Masters of Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University with a specialization in Planning. His research investigated landowner knowledge and perceptions of Indigenous archaeological heritage on private property on Xwe'etay / Lasqueti Island, B.C. Prior to joining Firelight, Owen supported the Negotiations and Implementation division of Fisheries and Oceans Canada Pacific Region, and completed a Mitacs Accelerate internship with Coastal First Nations studying collaborative governance cases to identify good practices and challenges. Outside of work, Owen loves reading, hiking, gardening, and walking around the city with his partner and their dog.
