Experience

Tyler Cantwell (he/him) is a Research Analyst with The Firelight Group supporting the Socio-Economic Research Team. Tyler is both a settler Canadian and Irish citizen. He holds an MSc in Paleoethnobotany from the University of Toronto where his research focused on sustainability in prehistory and the environmental relationships of the Satsumon, the ancestors of the indigenous Ainu of Hokkaido, Sakhalin, and the Kuril Islands (Ainu Mosir).

Tyler has worked domestically and internationally as an Archaeologist as well as a Project Coordinator with Heritage Canada, conducting archival research. Tyler also brings research experience from his support of First Nations' Specific Land Claims and negotiations, as well as experience in consultation.

Tyler's passion is in respect for nature and sustainable livelihoods as well as the intellectual property of Traditional Knowledge. When he is not working, Tyler can be found gardening, reading, or playing hockey.
