Sarah (she/her) is a Researcher supporting the Stewardship team at Firelight. She is a settler currently living on the territories of the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council and Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse, YT. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a BSc Hons. and Co-op in Marine Biology with a minor in Oceanography.
Throughout her undergrad, Sarah was a research assistant on several field and laboratory projects, particularly focused on longitudinal studies of cetacean species. Sarah completed her honours thesis under the collaborative supervision of the Ocean Tracking Network and Apoqnmatulti’k (Mi’kmaw for ‘we help each other’), a project aimed at enhancing the stewardship of valued aquatic species in Mi’kma’ki/Nova Scotia.
In Sarah’s role at Firelight, she draws on Indigenous Ecological Knowledge and western science to support community-led monitoring programs, stewardship initiatives, land planning, and ecological restoration activities. After work, you can find her outdoors hiking with friends, camping, or on a run with her Alaskan husky!
