Alanna has recently joined The Firelight Group as a Research Analyst. She is a descendant of settlers from Denmark and Poland and is currently living in Parry Sound on the Traditional Territory of the Anishinaabek under the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850.
Having gained valuable experience through diverse ecological and hydrological projects in Ontario since obtaining a Master of Science degree from McMaster University, Alanna has been instrumental in informing and implementing provincial and federal best management practices that focus on balancing ecological integrity and economic opportunity. She has helped manage various ecological projects and initiatives dedicated to the regional protection of the lands and waters while prioritizing Traditional Indigenous ways of life and practices. Notably, Alanna has played a pivotal role in assisting other communities in initiating land-based ecological and Guardians programming that aim to benefit the next Seven Generations. Her focus on relationship building, youth empowerment, and a commitment to Two-Eyed seeing approaches has been central to fostering sustainable and respectful environmental practices. Alanna is eager to assist communities in stewarding and providing guardianship of their lands through her role at The Firelight Group.
