Ashley is a Research Manager at Firelight for the Stewardship Team. She is a first-generation settler and child of immigrants from Georgetown, Guyana currently living in Edmonton, AB which is Treaty 6 territory and ancestral homeland of the Métis, Dene, Cree, and Blackfoot, among many others. She has a Masters degree in Environmental Science, specifically focusing on effectively incorporating Indigenous Knowledge within Canadian legislative frameworks inclusive of ecology, forestry, and natural resource management using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). For her thesis, Ashley worked closely with Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation and Mistawasis Nêhiyawak. She also spent 5 years representing the rights, claims, and interests of the Métis as a Program Manager in Consultation for the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. Ashley has certifications for Indigenous History in Canada and Sustainable Development Goals as defined by the United Nations and led an economic reconciliation program for two years with SAP for Indigenous entrepreneurs. For the past 11 years, she has continued to dedicate her career to being a committed ally to Indigenous people and their communities and will continue to do so.
