Ashley Shaw-Vaillancourt (she/her) is a dedicated ally and settler. Her parents immigrated to Canada from Guyana and she has lived across Canada as she completed her Master's Degree in Environment and Sustainability.
She is a Research Manager in the Ecology Department for Firelight and calls Edmonton, AB home alongside her partner and fur baby Yuki. Starting off as an entomologist and ecologist, her academic and professional career has taken her across Canada and the USA, Europe, and the Amazon Rainforest to understand how to effectively incorporate Indigenous Knowledge in Canadian legislation, resource management, forestry and science. Previously working as the Program Manager for the Otipemisiwak Métis Government, she spent 5 years absorbed in Indigenous rights, consultation, and negotiations. This experience provided a wealth of knowledge and understanding that has allowed her passion for Indigenous rights, science, and politics to thrive.
