Experience

Jill (she/her) is a Researcher on the Regulatory team and is passionate about working with communities to protect Indigenous rights and values in the assessment process. She is a settler of mixed European descent, born, and currently living, on Treaty 7 Lands in Otos-kwunee (Métis), Moh’kinstsis (Blackfoot), Wicispa Oyade (Îethka Nakoda Wîcastabi), Guts’ists’i (Tsuut’ina nation) also known as Calgary, territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy, the Îethka Nakoda Wîcastabi First Nations, ᖹᐟᒧᐧᒣᑯ (Siksikaitsitapi), and homeland to the Northwest Métis. She is currently completing her Masters of Environmental Assessment (MEnv) at Concordia University. She has a post-graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Fanshawe College, and a B.Sc in Ecology from the University of Calgary. She started at Firelight in 2022, and has worked with a number of Nations in BC, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario to protect Indigenous rights and values in regulatory processes. Some of the work Jill has done includes preparing project proposals and budgets, technical advising on assessment documents, preparing communication materials, conducting reviews on technical documents and assessments, and consolidating community comments and concerns to produce letters. She has a love for the outdoors and is a longtime member of Scouts Canada. She loves the mountains, walks in nature, and her dog.
