Skye Vandenberg, MES

Experience

Skye (she/her/kew) is a GIS Manager at Firelight. She is a member of Beausoleil First Nation (Gchi-Chimnissing) in Ontario working remotely on Saukiing Anishnaabekiing, Traditional Territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. She holds a Masters Degree in Environment and Resource Studies and a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science & Ecology from the University of Waterloo. 

Drawing on over 15 years of experience in environmental science and community engagement she specializes in bridging the gap between Western science and Indigenous Knowledge systems. Before joining Firelight, she served as an Environmental Scientist and GIS Technologist at Neegan Burnside, where she led on-the-land ecological fieldwork and developed advanced mobile data collection workflows using ArcGIS. Her career has been defined by a commitment to community-led conservation, including past roles with Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) and Evergreen Canada. Her expertise in spatial analysis and impact assessment is dedicated to empowering Indigenous sovereignty through inclusive and collaborative land management practices.
