Experience

Susan Leech (she/her) is a Technical Lead within the Ecology team, and provides support to the Regulatory team. She specializes in species at risk policy and planning, impact assessment, knowledge-based decision-making, and data analysis. Her career spans two decades, and has consistently been focused on the use of science and Indigenous knowledge to improve assessments and monitoring practices. Susan has supported a wide variety of clients to develop community-based monitoring programs and integrate complementary knowledge streams into decision-making. A trained facilitator, Susan is well versed in developing curriculum and delivering interactive training programs. Her work with The Firelight Group includes community-centred research on culturally important species at risk, policy changes for managing culturally important species, technical reviews of regulatory processes, and working with communities to develop better ways of assessing the true environmental impacts of projects.
