Tanya (she/they) is a second-generation settler of Vietnamese descent and a Research Manager with the Stewardship Team. Over the last 15 years, she has also been involved in various projects aimed at improving crown policy, legislation, and Nation-led programming in ways that uplift Indigenous Rights and interests. At Firelight, Tanya provides technical advisory services for regulatory and co-governance processes; facilitates community engagements; and develops, trains, and implements community-based monitoring. An aquatic ecologist by trade, she has expanded her experience to include multiple topics to support Indigenous-led stewardship, including: impact assessments; cumulative effects; species-at-risk; marine ecology; Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas; and Indigenous Guardian program development.
