She is experienced in developing and implementing collaborations across academia, Indigenous governments and communities, crown agencies, non-profits, and industry. Much of her work in environmental stewardship has focused on aquatic and marine ecology, protected area planning, and restoration.

For her thesis, Tanya drew from global research and a collaborative case study with the Kitasoo/Xai’xais Nation to investigate how to support Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas planning and implementation. She completed her BSc Biology with a Minor in Field Studies at McGill University (specializing aquatic and marine ecology) and obtained a Diploma in Integrated Environmental Planning from Selkirk College.
