Experience

Claudia’s Cree-Métis family roots originate in the Young’s Point Métis settlement in Manitoba. She is a Citizen of the Métis Nation of Alberta and is also of Chinese and Polish ancestry. Claudia is an Ecology Research Specialist at Firelight. She is an environmental scientist and community engagement specialist with over 25 years of experience in environmental project management. Claudia has experience working collaboratively with Indigenous and traditional communities around the world to support Indigenous Rights and interests and address biodiversity and habitat protection, environmental restoration, water conservation, food security, climate change, industrial contamination, economic development, and cultural revitalization. Claudia holds a Masters in Resource Management and Environmental Science from the University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (biology and chemistry stream) from the University of Calgary. Within her role on Firelight’s Stewardship team, Claudia has supported community-led projects on Indigenous Guardians, IPCAs, land-use planning processes, Indigenous laws and governance, species at risk, and impact assessments. She is experienced in community organizing, land-based capacity building, strategic visioning and planning, and the lifting up of Indigenous Knowledge into project design, research, and implementation.
