Experience

Joleen Timko (she/her) is a Research Director with Firelight’s Planning & Implementation team. 

Joleen specializes in community-driven research, Indigenous and community engagement, knowledge-based decision-making, and qualitative data analysis. She has extensive experience in social science research design and implementation (including designing, administering and analyzing +800 household interviews and focus groups in 7 countries on 3 continents, and hundreds of online surveys). 

Joleen has a PhD in Forestry, has taught at the undergraduate and graduate level, and continues to write and publish for community, public, and academic audiences. She is a proven project and program manager, having spent 10 years directing programs, leading teams, procuring grants, developing partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, and universities in Asia, Africa, and North America, and teaching and conducting research in three inter-disciplinary, inter-sectoral programs during her tenure at the University of British Columbia.
