Join us in welcoming Natasha Burgoyne, of ʔAq̓am band, Ktunaxa Nation, to the Firelight Group! Natasha will be joining the Edmonton team as a Research Intern.

“I started working with Craig Candler on Traditional Use and Interest Studies for my Nation, and the work that it involved gave me enormous satisfaction! I came to realize that this line of work was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Being Indigenous and having the opportunity to research the history of all Indigenous peoples is something that is very important to me. I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge of how research works and how I can have a positive impact when it comes to Aboriginal title and rights.”

Natasha brings experience from her role as Cultural Liaison with Ktunaxa Nation’s Traditional Knowledge and Language Sector, where she both represented cultural perspectives and values and conducted traditional use, historical, and genealogical research. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology and Native Studies at the University of Alberta. We are very excited for Natasha to bring her insight, enthusiasm, and research experience to the team!
