Firelight at IAIA 2020 in Spain

ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS OPEN NOW!

Firelight will be at the IAIA – International Association for Impact Assessment conference in Seville, Spain, from May 26-29, 2020, hosting two sessions!

Director Dr Rachel Olson will be hosting the session “Aashukan Continues: Envisioning Indigenous Capacity and Engagement in IA“. The vision of Aashukan remains timely and important and has led to the creation a formalized network called the Network for Indigenous Capacity and Engagement (NICE). This session will work towards implementing the principles of Aashukan and advancing Indigenous perspectives in IA.

Senior Research Manager Dr Jordan Tam will also be hosting a paper session entitled, “Is technology contributing to effective Indigenous engagement in environmental assessment?” The session will explore how technology is shaping the ability of Indigenous groups and communities to assert and draw attention to their environmental and land rights and engage in environmental assessment. What is needed for technology to work well? What lessons can be learned from the use of technology to collect and communicate Indigenous knowledge within and between communities and organizations?

Abstract submissions for Dr Tam’s session will be open until October 31, 2019. If interested, please submit your abstract for session #205, and visit https://conferences.iaia.org/2020/index.php for more information.

You can also e-mail your questions to the session chair, Jordan Tam, Senior Research Manager, at jordan.tam@thefirelightgroup.com.

We look forward to seeing you in Spain in 2020!
